SL fields Boys’, Girls’ teams for Asian Junior Chess Championship
Sri Lanka has fielded a team of 25 players in both the Boys’ and Girls’ events under the leadership of current National Champion Ranindu Liyanage at the Asian Junior Chess Championship, conducted by the Asian Chess Federation. The championship will be hosted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, from December 17 to 23, at Citrus Hotel, Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka.
The event is for the age group under 20 years of age, and will be held according to the Swiss System in 9 rounds. This is the most prestigious Chess event for chess players under the age of 20 years in Asia. Eight countries; India, Iran, Maldives, UAE, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan; have registered for the event. (D.R.)
