SL to mark National Sports Day today

Sri Lanka will celebrate National Sports Day today (Aug. 1) as a mark of respect to Duncan White, who won the Olympic Silver Medal on July 31, 1948.

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa announced this decision in Colombo yesterday intending to create a new sports culture and moving forward with the challenges.

“Sports always guide to win many challenges and the Sports Day will focus on the long-term plan of achieving success,” the Minister revealed.

“We had many challenges due to the pandemic, but we were able to continue with our activities at this difficult period with the support of the athletes, coaches, and officials,” the Minister added.
