SLBFE, CID joint report on Oman trafficking ready

Identified suspects to be arrested, taken to court

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which conducted the joint on-site investigations into the Oman job racket and the human trafficking allegations have been able to identify the suspects involved  in these crimes and legal action will be taken against them in the future, SLBFE Deputy General Manager I. Pathinayake said.

A group of officers from the special investigation unit of the SLBFE and the CID were in Oman to conduct the on-site investigations at the Safe House in the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman on the instructions of Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara on December 10.

According to the joint report by the investigation team that went to Oman, they had recorded statements from 84 Sri Lankan women who had been detained in the safe house and it has been revealed that some of the women had been sent for jobs in Oman violating the SLBFE Act while some of them have become the victims of human trafficking.

The SLBFE and the CID officers will jointly take steps to arrest the suspects identified and produce them before the courts, Pathinayake said.
