SLFP stands by Gammanpila – Jayasekara

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has no intention of supporting the No-Confidence Motion of the Opposition against Minister Udaya Gammanpila, State Minister of Batik, Handloom Fabrics and Local Apparel Products and SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara told the Daily News yesterday.

“The decision to increase fuel prices was not taken by Minister Udaya Gammanpila alone. That decision had been taken by the Committee of the Cost of Living. Subsequently, that decision had been forwarded and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers for implementation. Hence, Minister Udaya Gammanpila is not responsible for the fuel price hike,” State Minister Jayasekera said.

“However, it should be noted that the Government took the decision of increasing fuel prices unwillingly.”

“The sole authority of appointing Ministers is the President of this country. All patriotic political parties in the country have to support the ruling party to overcome the present challenges within the country,” he added.

“The Opposition should not ‘fish in troubled waters’ and act in a responsible manner with the people’s interests at heart, when the Nation is trying to overcome the COVID- 19 pandemic,” the State Minister said.
