SLPP Convention at Sugathadasa Stadium today
The Second National Convention of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) under the leadership of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo today (15).
A large number of SLPP members including the founder and national organizer of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, former Economic Developmet Minister Basil Rajapaksa, ministers and leaders of other political leaders are expected to participate
in the convention. All political parties and groups which are in alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna have been invited for this convention. It is also special that the party members living in every electorates of the country have been also invited. SLPP Founder and National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa said the Party will announce its programme or to move the country forward at this convention. He pointed out that the convention is scheduled to start at 2 pm and more than 5,000 people representing every constituency in the country will participate in the convention.
The SLPP,formed in 2016 amid many challenges, has gone down in history as a political party that has achieved many victories in a short period and the strength of the party was well demonstrated by achieving a great victory in the first local Government election held after the establishment of that party. After that, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, which won the 2019 Presidential Election and the General Election, managed to record all the achievements in the country’s history in a short period.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam said the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has managed to hold the largest May Day rally in the political history of Sri Lanka shortly after this party was created, and this party was able to win 85 percent of the Local Government elections with the “the lotus bud” symbol.
After that, we also participated in the Presidential Election, and with the agreement of the party, Gotabaya Rajapaksa was nominated by this party and was able to appoint him as the President, setting a historic record with the votes of 6.9 million Sri Lankans.
