SLPP MP under death threat from two persons

SLPP MP D. Weerasinghe said in Parliament yesterday that unidentified persons were giving him threatening telephone calls. He requested the Speaker to ensure his security.

Raising an issue of privilege, he told Parliament that he was accused by two people on social media, stating that a mother and daughter were raped and then killed by him in 1988.I must say that I was only eight years old in 1989.

“They are threatening to kill me. They even send SMS messages making such threats. We saw an incident of shooting at MP Uddika Premaratne. Two persons called Manjula Priyankara and Maithri Dharmaratne have accused me in two Facebook posts that I raped a mother and a daughter and set them on fire in 1989. I think they didn’t know that I was eight years old at that time. People who do not know the truth are insulting me. I will complain about this to the Criminal Investigation Department. I request you to take necessary steps to ensure my security.
