All arrangements have been made to hold the second National Convention of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) on December 15, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Sports Complex, Colombo.

This National Convention will be held under the chairmanship of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s leader, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and its founder and national organizer, Basil Rajapaksa, former Finance Minister, party ministers, party leaders, party members and others.

All political parties and groups in alliance with the SLPP have been invited to participate in this convention and arrangements have been made to hold it on a grand scale. The next presidential candidate of the party is scheduled to be officially announced at this convention.

SLPP General Secretary, Member of Parliament, lawyer Sagara Kariyawasam said that this huge party, which was born amid many challenges, has faced many trials in the past few years and has overcome those challenges and has come forward, and has never wavered from the accusations levelled by the leaders of the governments that existed at the time of the creation of the party.

Kariyawasam pointed out that in a short time after the creation of this party, it was possible to hold the largest May Day rally that no one could have done in the political history of Sri Lanka, and that the party was able to win 85 percent of the Local Government Elections by contesting under the Pohottuwa symbol.

He recalled that this party also presented a candidate for the Presidential Election, and with the party’s agreement, Gotabaya Rajapaksa was nominated as the presidential candidate and he won the election, setting a historic record with 6.9 million votes from the Sri Lankan people.

This party, which is integrated with nearly 30 affiliated organizations that are not found in any other party, has been able to implement a national programme in the country at the gramasewaka level, electoral level and district level.

He further said that accordingly, in the next five years, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will strengthen the party further, protect the party members, collect the strength given to them, add new party members, protect the government and move forward.
