CH and FC will be at full strength and raring to go when they take on the Army Sports Club in their SLR ‘A’ Division Inter-Club League Rugby first-round match at Havelock Park today, starting at 4:15 pm.
Led by flanker, Sudarshana Muthuthanthri, the CH team got some good players who could be match-winners for the Maitland Crescent outfit.
Players such as fly-half and playmaker Rohitha ‘Chichi’ Rajapaksa, centres Kushan Indunil, Hirantha Perera, number eight Samuel Ogbebor, winger Reeza Rafaideen, flanker Muthuthanthri, scrum-half Sudam Parinda and full back Avishka Lee should be marked well by the Soldiers, if not, they will be in deep trouble like the Navy side did in their last week game in the ongoing league tournament.
The CH, one of the strongest teams at present in the SLR League Championship this year, will be out for another shock win when they meet Army. The CH and FC coached by former Sri Lanka national sevens coach Nilfer Ibrahim and Rajiv Perera, should have things their way in this encounter.
The CH and FC outfit in the ongoing league tournament beat the formidable Navy SC (28-22) in Welisara, but lost to Kandy (3-39) up at Nittawela, CR & FC (22-27) in Longden Place, and lost to Havies (17-20) at Havelock Park, in a tense battle.
Playmaker ‘Chichi’ Rajapaksa’s kicking boot will play a major role in this game as well, exactly like he did last week against strong Navy SC.
Meanwhile, Army, the dark horse of the League, will be out for an important win and keep their chances alive to move forward to get into the League’s (second round) ‘Cup’ Championship. They will be heavily dependent on their skipper Gayan Salinda, playmaker cum fly half Ashan Bandara, the two hard-running centres Danushka Talwatte and Winger Sudaraka Dikkumbura.
Army SC lost two games within close margins to Air Force (5-12), Havies (14-36), and held young CR & FC outfit to a (16-16) draw in the ongoing inter-club league tourney.
Going by the two teams’ performances so far, this encounter should be a close tussle for supremacy with CH and FC holding a firm edge over the underdogs, Army SC team, in this League match.
