SLSR wins Inter-Regiment Para Archery Tourney

The Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Team (SLSR) emerged overall champions of Sri Lanka Army’s 23rd Inter-Regiment Para Archery Tournament, organised by the Headquarters Battalion of the SLSR held at the Regimental Centre of SLSR in Ambepussa.

The Archery Teams of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Gemunu Watch (GW), Gajaba Regiment (GR), Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and Special Force (SF) Regiments participated in the finals of the Para Archery Championship.

The SLSR Team won three out of the six events at this meet and edged out their closest rivals SLLI Team, who had to be content with the runners-up place in the final.

The architect of SLSR Team’s success was the season campaigner Jagath Weeratunga, who was later named as the Best Archer of the Meet for his performance in the 70m Open Championship.

Weerathunga was undoubtedly the most experienced competitor at this event having earlier represented the country at the World Archery Para Championships in Italy and at the Asian Para Games in China. His teammate H. R. Wickremasinghe secured second place in the open

Championship with M. G. S. Bandara of SLLI claiming third place. Brigadier Nishantha Muthumala, Centre Commandant, SLSR graced the awards Ceremony as the Chief Guest along with all the Staff Officers of the Regimental Centre SLSR.

(70m Open Championship): 1st place: W. A. J. N. Weerathunga (SLSR). 2nd place H. R Wickramashinghe (SLSR). 3rd place M. G. S. Bandara (SLLI). (70m Team Event Open Championship): 1st place: M. G. S. Bandara (SLLI) and A. G. W. S, Kumara (SLLI). 2nd place: G. G. S. R. S. Priyantha (SLSR) and Chinthaka Kumara (SLSR). 3rd place: W. A. J. N. Weerathunga (SLSR) and H. R. Wickramsinghe (SLSR).
