SLTB employees’ salary, other issues solved soon – Chairman
Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Chairman Lal Alwis said that they SLTB is currently working on getting the necessary recommendations to resolve the employee salary disparity that has existed since 2017.
The Chairman said that this issue has been referred to the Committee for Recruitment and Restructuring of Public Services under Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena by the Cabinet and that the recommendations of this committee is being awaited to take further steps to resolve the employee salary disparity in the SLTB.
He was responding to a query by the Daily News regarding efforts to solve salary disparities in the SLTB.Alwis further stated that the relevant committee will give the related report to the Cabinet in the next few weeks and accordingly it is expected that a solution will be found after that. As per the Sri Lanka Transport Board’s restructuring plan, there are eight grades in the middle and top management levels.
From the first grade to the third grade, are positions related to the upper executive grades, the fourth and fifth grades are middle executive positions, and the sixth, seventh and eighth grades are positions in the associate management grades.
He said that there are 3,445 employees in Grade 1 to 8 categories and their salary problems have not been resolved yet.
The reason for this he said is that the Sri Lanka Transport Board does not have a proper recruitment and promotion procedure.
All the service requirements and positions of the Sri Lanka Transport Board have been adjusted and the necessary recruitment and promotion procedures have been prepared and submitted to the Management Services Department.
He pointed out that this has been delayed since the year 2017 because the Management Services Department did not provide the salary scales and code numbers related to each service segment to the satisfaction of the trade unions and the administration.
The Chairman mentioned that there is a disparity in the ranks and people nominated for certain positions by the SLTB, and the Minister had stated in the meeting held last Friday with the union officials that a solution would be provided to this by the Cabinet of Ministers.
