It is frivolous for some party leaders to mislead the citizenry by promising to change the IMF agreements after obtaining a mandate. State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said in Parliament yesterday (13).

Also, the Minister said that they should explain to the people what method that there is that we could move forward as a country by reducing taxes and reducing government revenue.

The Minister further said that the State business restructuring policy has been formulated and a Bill will be brought to the Parliament in the near future and the necessary measures will be taken to bring the State Institutions to a profitable competitive and international level.

The Minister further pointed out that for that, the reinvestment activities will be carried out in a way that is most suitable for each business, by means of selling shares, changing management, operating in a cooperative system, etc. The Minister further pointed out that other political parties are misleading the people that they would change these conditions that the current government is implementing through their programme.

Pointing out that the facts presented by some party leaders that the International Monetary Fund has given a rate of 20 percent to the government in the payment of the debt, the Minister said that it is incorrect and that an agreement has been reached to make the debt payment sustainable and to strengthen the debt payment by 2032. The Minister further pointed out that the government is working on a financial target of achieving 95 percent of the total amount of debt compared to the gross domestic product.
