Speaker must reveal truth without mere statements – SJB

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Hector Appuhamy yesterday expressed concern over the steps being taken by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to solve the current political crisis.

He said although the Speaker knows everything about the whereabouts of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, he does not reveal the real truth to the people.

Appuhamy said everybody including the Speaker knows that the President has fled the country to a secret location without facing the on-going crisis in the country.

He said the main Opposition and also the people cannot tolerate such a situation and therefore take suitable action to rectify this for the sake of peace loving people in the country.

He said that at this crucial moment no one can accept the role being played by Speaker as he is trying to fool the people by making various statements on the forming of a new leadership and to provide economy assistance to millions of people in the country.

He said due to the long delay of forming a new administration people are suffering a lot since their expectations have blurred and the country’s economy crisis is increasing day by day.

Appuhamy said although protesters have already demanded both Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe to step down forthwith unfortunately both of them have not yet made any statement in this regard as both are still greedy for power.

He said nobody wants to listen to the demands being made by persons involved in the protest and also other political parties in the country.

He said the time has come to the Speaker to take a suitable step to solve this present political crisis considering the welfare of 22 million in the country and if the Speaker does not listen to it at this crucial juncture the situation will go from bad to worst.
