Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told Parliament yesterday that there is no change in the verdict given by him on the domestic debt optimisation (DDO) programme approved in Parliament.

The Speaker said that the relevant verdict was not a decision taken by him alone and that the relevant verdict was taken after proper legal advice and discussion. He also said that the relevant verdict does not mention court cases in any place.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena stated this while presenting his opinion after the conversation that took place in Parliament yesterday morning regarding a decision given by the Speaker earlier. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that the decision was not a decision he took alone.”This decision was taken after taking proper legal advice and discussing it. Next, we have not mentioned anywhere about the Court cases. The supremacy of Parliament regarding the finances of the country belong to Parliament itself and nothing else. The financial administration is with the Parliament. However, I have no chance to change my decision. This decision was taken after taking all the proper steps,” he said.
