Special operation to curb narcotics held countrywide

The Sri Lanka Police and the Police Special Task Force has started a special operation to combat drug trafficking and organized crimes covering all Police stations in the country.

Police media spokesman Senior Superintendent Nihal Talduwa, said that the Tri-Forces will also lend assistance to the operations when necessary.

Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandhu Tennakoon yesterday inspected some of the operations in Colombo and gave necessary instructions.

Thalduwa said that in the operation conducted in Wellampitiya area, nearly 40 people have been arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal items and drugs.

In Bharathipuram area of Kilinochchi, 68 kilos of Kerala cannabis was found in the ceiling of a house and a 28-year-old female suspect was also arrested in this connection.

A husband and wife was arrested with 35 kilos of Hashish, 633 grams of heroin, 180 milligrams of Ice (Meth) and 10 milligrams of Ice in an operation conducted yesterday morning (17) in the Palliyawatta, Wattala division.

Police media spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that these raids were conducted in the selected Police divisions and that these raids will be conducted in the relevant areas immediately based on the information received.
