Sports Ministry, Asian Hockey Federation sign MoU

The Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry entered into an Memorundum of Understanding (MoU) with the Asian Hockey Federation in Kuala Lumpur for the development of International Hockey ground at Reid Avenue, Colombo 7 and the Nandamithra International Hockey ground in Matale on Saturday (16).

The development of these Hockey grounds costing Rs 110 million will be carried out through the intervention of Sports and Youth Affairs State Minister Rohana Dissanayake.

Under this project, the Hockey grounds at Reid Avenue in Colombo 7 and Nandamithra International Hockey ground in Matale will get synthetic turfs and these turfs comply with standards set by the International Hockey Federation.

State Minister Dissanayake said that these grounds will get new turfs within three months.

The State Minister also thanked Sports Minister Harin Fernando for providing guidance to make this project a reality.

Director General of Sports Shamal Fernando, Secretary of the Matale Hockey Association and Project Director Dayan Dissanayake, Vice President of the Association Moradi Umardeen and International Hockey Federation President Tayyab Imram and Asian Hockey Association Executive Committee members were present.

The International Hockey Federation recognized the services of State Minister Rohana Dissanayake for the uplift of Hockey in Sri Lanka by presenting a special award during the signing in ceremony.
