Sports Ministry launches countdown for Olympic Winter Games
The Ministry of Youth and Sports together with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka demonstrated their support and enthusiasm for the upcoming XXIV Olympic Winter Games – Beijing 2022 with the launch of a 30-day countdown to the games held at the Port City Sales Gallery, Colombo on Wednesday.
One of the most highly anticipated international sporting events around the world, the upcoming XXIV Olympic Games – Beijing 2022 will begin on February 4 this year. The Winter Olympics legacy is unmatched and China is pulling out all the stops to prepare for what will be legendary set of games – one that has been four years in the making.
The event saw the announcement of an exciting live talecast to be held on the February 4 at the Racecourse Grounds, Colombo, where crowds can gather to watch the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics unfold on a large screen, amidst much excitement and a lively ambiance.
The event was graced by the presence of Sri Lanka Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa and Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Xi Zhenhong. The event was a mark of the strengthening Sri Lanka-China relations between the countries, serving as a sign of many more milestones to come.
With events to be held from February 4 to 20, the upcoming Winter Olympic Games season is expected to be filled with record breaking, healthy competition and unprecedented sporting talent. Sri Lankan Olympic enthusiasts can expect a month of lively entertainment, dynamic events and opportunity to watch sports history in the making.
