Sportswoman Chushadi Peiris does Dharmapala proud

Sri Lanka Schools Junior and Senior Taekwondo Champion and Gold Medalist, Member of the school under 19 Girls Cricket Team, 2023 Ladies World Cup Colombo District poolist, left arm leg spinner and right hand opening batsman, athlete and Volleyball Player Deraniyagalage Chushadi Kaushalya Devmini Peiris has brought honour and immense glory to Dharmapala Vidyalaya Kottawa and Dharmapala Vidyalaya Pannipitiya respectively.

Chushadi who hails from Pannipitiya was born on 7th November 2003 and initially admitted to Kottawa Dharmapala When she was in grade nine in 2017 she participated in the school inter house athletic meet and she did 100 and 200 metres and 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay events at the under 15 age limit and in the following year she did the relay events and Long Jump and she came first and got selected for the Divisional Educational Meet.

In the meantime she commenced Volleyball in 2017 and played for the Inter House Tournament and in the following year her school came third in the Divisional Educational Tournament and in the next year playing in the inter house tournament she was adjudged as the school under 18 Best Player and the Attacker. Her Volleyball Coach was Charith Madushanka.

Sportswoman Chushadi Peiris does Dharmapala proudThen in 2018 she commenced Taekwondo and at the school inter house meet she was the under 19 Weight Category Champion and in the same year at the Second Junior National Championship she clinched a Gold Medal for the 44-46 lbs weight category and in the following year at the National Sports Festival she won a Gold Medal in the under 46 weight and she was adjudged as the Best Player of the Tournament and in the Provincial Meet she grabbed another Gold Medal and at the National Schools Meet she won another Gold in the under 18 age group 44-46 lbs category

At the Sri Lanka Schools Taekwondo Senior Championship in 2019, 44-46 lbs she won another Gold and became the Best Player of the under 15-17 age group. Same year at the Third Junior Nationals 44-46 lbs she won a Gold and at the school inter house sports meet she won a Gold and was adjudged the Best Player of the school.

Then in 2020 at the 46th National Sports Festival Colombo District Tournament she won a Gold for Western Province and in 2021 Sri Lanka Schools Taekwondo Variation Championship on Line Speed Kicking under 19 age group she won a Silver.

As she got through her Ordinary Level Examination with good results and as there was no under 19 Girls Cricket Team of her present school her Parents Wimalasiri Peiris of Oruwala Junior School and Chandrani Seneviratne decided to admit their daughter to Dharmapala Vidyalaya Pannipitiya.where she attended under 19 cricket practices under S.B. Senanayake, and walked into the team easily and in an under 19 tournament match against St.Anthony’s Girls School Panadura in 2020 they beat them easily by ten wickets and she put on an unbroken 249 runs opening partnership with Devni Nihara who scored 101 runs and Chushadi was unbeaten with a brilliant 109 runs.
