Sportswoman Nimesha Tharuni does Marapola MMV proud

The Most Popular School Girl Cricketer 2021 and 2020 and also the Best Batswomen 2021 of the 43rd Observer SLT-Mobitel contest, , School Games Captain, Captain of the School Cricket and Elle Teams and Athlete, Netball and Volleyball player Nimesha Tharuni Wijesundera has brought honour and immense glory to her alma mater Madya Maha Vidyalaya Marapola, Minuwangoda with her deeds in the field of sports.

Nimesha was born on 6th June 2001 and her Parents Dixon Wijesundara and Nalini Wijewardene .admitted her to Marapola Vidyalaya in 2012 and there too she did 100 metres and in Long Jump and High Jump she came first in the under eleven age group and in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 at the school meet she did the same events and won the High Jump and Long Jump . In 2017 she did the Putt Shot, Discus and Javelin and swept the board and became the under 18 champion. In addition her house team won the 400×4 relay and came second in 100×4 and at the Divisional she won a place and at the Zonal she was second in Putt Shot.. In 2018 and 2019 she won her pet events at the School Meet and once again she was the school under 20 Girls Champion.

She commenced playing Elle in 2015 and her house team won the championship and captained the teams in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 and her school team won the 3rd place at the Western Provincial Tournament. . She captained the team for four years.

Then she participated for the school Netball and Volleyball teams and her netball and Volleyball Coaches were Mrs.Shama Palika and Mr.Ananda respectively.

In 2017 her school commenced participating in Inter School Cricket and their first coach is former Palian all round Cricketer and Coach S.B.Senanayake. She was a unanimous choice for the under 19 team and participated in the schools Singer Tournament in 2017 and in 2018 and they got the fifth place. Then in 2019 with the strenuous and hard training they did well at the Singer Tournament and she scored 123 runs versus Balika Vidyalaya Kirimetiyawa and 108 runs against Nugawela Central and with these fine all round performances under her belt she was adjudged the Most popular Runner up at the 41st Sunday Observer SLT Mobitel 2019 and in 2020 she was selected as the Most Popular Girls Cricketer and this year she was the Most Popular Girls Cricketer and the Best Batswomen and presently she is in the under 21 Girls Development Squad.

She was the Captain of the team from 2018 to 2021 and won school colours. Also she was the School Games Vice Captain in 2017 and 2018 and she is the School Games Captain in 2019 and 2020 and she was adjudged as the school Best Cricketer in 2019 and 20 and she carried away the Best Batswoman award in 2019. Under her captaincy her school won the Gampaha District Championship.
