Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital drops cost of lab tests by 50%
The management of the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital has decided to reduce the charges of laboratory tests by 50 percent to provide relief to patients, the hospital’s Director Dr. Ratnasiri A. Hewage said.
Dr. Hewage stated that the price reductions apply to tests related to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension. The primary aim of this initiative is to ease the financial burden on patients.
The hospital administration has taken this step to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the hospital’s establishment. A range of tests, including the Complete Blood Count (CBC), will now be available at half the previous cost. For instance, the CBC can now be done for just Rs. 150. Other tests such as Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Postprandial Blood Sugar (PPBS), and Random Blood Sugar (RBS) will also be available at Rs. 150 each, while the HbA1C test will cost Rs. 1,400. The prices for T3, T4, and TSH tests have been reduced to Rs. 1,200 and Rs. 1500, respectively. The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) test is available for Rs. 150, and the C-Reactive Protein (CRP) test is now Rs. 650.
The hospital laboratory operates 24 hours a day, providing patients with a quality and efficient service, Dr. Hewage added.
The director explained that this 50 percent reduction in test costs aims to encourage patients to undergo necessary medical tests by making them more affordable and to alleviate the economic hardships faced by patients.
