India secured a place in the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket gold medal match after routing Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the second semifinal at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. India posted 169 for seven before bowling Sri Lanka out for just 45.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl, and managed to make early inroads. However, Ishan Kishan powered India to a competitive total with an unbeaten 80 off 46 balls, hitting five sixes and four fours. Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi contributed a quick 38 off 21 deliveries.
Sri Lanka captain Sahan Arachchige and Tharindu Ratnayake claimed two wickets each as India finished on 169 for seven from their 20 overs.
Chasing 170 for victory, Sri Lanka’s batting collapsed against the Indian attack. The top order was dismantled early and Sri Lanka never recovered, eventually being dismissed for 45 as India completed a commanding 124-run victory.
The result sends India into the gold medal match against Pakistan, while Sri Lanka will have to settle for a place in the bronze medal playoff.
The medal matches are scheduled for Oct. 3 at Korogi Sports Park. (Newswire)
