Sri Lanka confident of a good display at World Cup

The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup arrangements already finished and this mega event scheduled be held in India from October 5 with defending champions England facing New Zealand in the tournament opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.ICC elite panel umpire Sri Lanka ‘ s Kumar Dharmasena will officiate first match as on field umpire with Indian umpire Menon.

The final of the 48-match tournament will also be held at the same venue on November 19. The 10 teams will feature in league-stage matches across 10 venues in India.

However, as a final preparatory lap before the World Cup, the ICC will organise warm-up games for the teams across three venues. Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad and Guwahati will host ODI World Cup warm-up games from September 29 to October 3.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka cricket team is expected to play first warm up game against Bangladesh before the world cup today ( 29) at Guwahati. According to the Sri Lanka team management the team got first training session yesterday at Guwahati and ready to play first warm up game today.

The skipper Dasun Shanaka already said from the warm up games team is expected to do well to get pre preparation for the world cup .India is very familiar for us and personally I am very keen to play in India which always give batting favourable wickets and we are going to this event from match by match said slipped Dasun Shanaka.

Sri Lanka will meet Afghanistan in their secund warm.up game on October 3 rd at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati Before the Sri Lanka team departure Sri Lanka Cricket held a special meeting headed by SLC President Shammi Silva with National Team Management and the selection panel to preview Sri Lanka’s World Cup preparations.

Also present at the meeting, which were held last week were.Mohan de Silva, Secretary, Sri Lanka Cricket; Ashley De Silva,CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket;Chris Silverwood, Head Coach of the National Team Mahela Jayawardena, Consultant Coach of the National Team; and Mahinda Halangoda, Team Manager.

Chief Selector Pramodya Wickramasinghe and members of the selection panel,. Romesh Kaluwitharana and Hemantha Wickramaratne, were also present.Promodya is also selector on this world cup tour.

During the meeting, the Sri Lanka team’s commendable performances in the Asia Cup 2023 were discussed, while measures to be taken to avoid a repetition of the final also came into focus said top official of SLC. The selectors, during the meeting, explained the intended composition of the World Cup squad and also possible contingency plans in place for’ replacements’ if such a measure is needed. During the meeting, all in attendance were in agreement that the national team is in the right direction towards making further progress and were optimistic that the upcoming World Cup will bring glory to the nation.
