A delegation of 20 officers from the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service, representing the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, has completed a specialized training and capacity building programme at the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in New Delhi, India. The programme took place from October 05 to 16.
The training featured a series of technical sessions and knowledge-sharing activities covering educational policy formulation and implementation, leadership and institutional management, school supervision and quality assurance, governance and accountability, digital literacy and data driven decision making.
It also emphasized strategic planning, resource management, stakeholder coordination and the practical application of innovative management and monitoring approaches tailored to the Sri Lankan context.
This capacity building initiative was organized following an announcement by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025, under which India committed to offering 700 customized training slots annually for Sri Lankan professionals.
Combined with an ongoing programme where 300 Sri Lankan civil servants undergo training annually under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India’s National Centre for Good Governance and the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, India’s capacity building efforts now benefit more than 1,000 Sri Lankans every year.
