Opener Pathum Nissanka (68) and all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva (55) hit half centuries as Sri Lanka made 263 all out in their World Cup warm-up fixture played at Guwahati, India yesterday.
The Sri Lanka team won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Janith Perera made a brisk start while Perera who scored 34 in 24 with 6 fours had to return to the pavilion retired hurt and Kusal Mendis together with Nissanka continued the partnership to complete 104 runs in 14.4 overs. Mendis scored 22 in 19 balls with 3 fours and a six while Sadeera Samarawickrama was out for only 2 in 3 balls as Sri Lanka were 107 for 2 wickets in 15.4 overs.
Nissanka the right-hander was in top form scoring 68 in 64 balls with 8 fours and a six and his prize wicket was taken by spinner Mehedi Hassan in the 20th over. Skipper Dasun Shanaka had a poor performance scoring only 3 runs in 17 balls.
All-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva used his experience to build up the innings and scored 55 in 79 balls with 2 fours and a six while Charith Asalanka and Dimuth Karunaratne who came in at No. 8 scored 18 runs each. Sri Lanka were bundled out for 263 in 49.1 overs.
Sri Lanka team Manager Mahinda Halangoda said that Kusal Janith Perera experienced a slight injury in his hand but it was not a serious issue. The team doctor and Physiotherapist are treating him to a speedy recovery, he said. The second warm-up game against Afghanistan will be held on October 3.
