Sri Lanka despite having a match against England today has been pushed out of qualifying for the semi finals as New Zealand and Australia won their last Super 12 matches of the T20 Cricket World Cup in Adelaide yesterday.New Zealand beat Ireland convincingly by 35 runs and Australia won against Afghanistan who came tantalizingly clsoe to winning the match while losing by just four runs.
Sri Lanka’s chances of qualifying for the semi finals were put in jeopardy when the team lost to both Australia and New Zealand in their Super 12 matches in Group 1.Australia and New Zealand are sitting pretty on the threshhold of semi final berths with seven points each.
England currently has five points and need to beat Sri Lanka today to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi finals.Sri Lanka on the other hand have just four points and even a win against England will give them six points which is short of the seven points held by both New Zealand and Australia.
