National Sports Council and High Performance Committee have identified Kabaddi as a sport which can obtain medals at the International level and Sports Development Department agreed to give 42 million rupees for its development under the High Performance Sports Development Programme.
The Minister further said they have a plan to conduct Franchise league Kabaddi tournament with foreign players like LPL to get more exposure for the players as well as to improve foreign investment through Kabaddi sport.
We wanted to conduct more International tournaments to give more opportunities for local players and it has to develop from more sports and especially Kabaddi is more popular among the South Asian region and we have to involve with them to go forward added Minister. We can’t halt the sports activities due to Covid 19 and it has to go forward with this pandemic.
We are going to stage the Sri Lanka – India cricket series and already we have formed two back up pools under Bio bubble to be ready for this cricket series .We are expecting 12 million rupees profit from the India series and these are very important to make a good sport economy.
