Sri Lanka must rectify its mistakes to go forward

0 2

Sri Lanka cricket team already suffered three consecutive defeats at the world cup will try to come up in their next games but their present performance is not up to expectations. They lost to South Africa in their high scoring game in Delhi and lost to Pakistan at Hyderabad once again in a high scoring game.

The most disappointed game was against Australia in Lucknow on Monday and that is an eye opener for the team. They were in good position with their batting during first two games against South Africa and Pakistan. The stand in skipper Kusal Mendis before the Australia game said he was confident about Sri Lanka batting but that did not happen during the Australia game.

Sri Lanka openers Kusal Janith Perera and Pathum Nissanka put on a remarkable 125 runs stand in 22 overs but Sri Lanka were all out for 209 in 43.3 overs with 6.3 overs to spare .

Who should get blame for poor batting performance and who is responsible for this and these are two important areas to look into. We have to play another six World Cup games and it’s not still late to correct players’ mistakes. The game between Netherlands on October 21 is the best chance to make winning mentally for Sri Lanka side. No proper plan in batting and their shot selections were very poor.

We knew we had very inexperienced bowling side compared to the other teams. Even Afghanistan and Bangladesh have very experienced bowlers. Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera were out due to injuries while Matheesha Pathirana was not in last game and skipper Dasun Shanaka also out from the team due to injury. These were very unfortunate issues for Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan batters couldn’t maintain consistant batting performance as top order and middle order batters did not click. When the top order play good cricket our middle order batters are not clicking. They are not school cricketers but professional cricketers. Fielding and bowling also very vital for one day games. However physical and mental fitness are the key factors for any player. We haven’t psychologist or a motivator with the team and Daily News highlited this issue several times. If we want to go forward in this World Cup we have to rectify our mistakes.
