ExCel: Sri Lanka opened doors for the world tourism industry over six decades ago, well before some of the other counties in the region, said Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Saroja Sirisena.

The country is very experienced at entertaining and protecting travellers in a professional manner and said that after going through a lean period in the last two years, Sri Lanka is now open for business again.

She said that despite several economic constraints Sri Lanka is participating in the WTM in a big and robust manner. “It is mainly to share with the world what Sri Lanka has to offer and that Sri Lanka is very much back to normal.

Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Chalaka Gajabahu said that he was happy to see over 60 travel companies participating in the event from Sri Lanka despite last minute preparations.

He recalled that the British ancestors were in Sri Lanka 150 years ago and called on the present generation also to visit Sri Lanka. This year Sri Lankan participant companies for the WTM had to pay in US Dollars to reserve space in the stand.

Many said that the decision to participate could have been taken earlier if they could have confirmed appointments with ease. WTM, the second largest travel fare in the world held in ExCel Docklands will conclude today.
