Sri Lanka passes 1.1 Mn tourism arrival mark

Clearly underlining the tourism recovery, Sri Lanka passed the 1.1 million arrival mark last week when the country welcomed over 1,105, 000 tourists by October 30, 2023.

The growth is very evident as the country only attracted 719,978 arrivals for the entire 2022 year.

Up to October 25, 2023 Sri Lanka attracted 87,926 arrivals and the figure is expected to pass the 100,000 for October. With the visa free arrivals extend for six countries and the introductions of several new airlines and charterers Sri Lanka will come close to the 2 million arrivals mark for 2023.

Earnings from Tourism up to October 30, was around USD 1.5 billion.

Once again India with 22,953 arrivals and accounting to 26% was the number one source destination for Sri Lanka while Russian Federation with 8,193 (9%) and United Kingdom with 7,051 (8%) were the second and third. Germany (5,701) and China (5,183) were fourth and fifth.
