Dasun Shanaka and the team left from to Lucknow last Wednesday and they got two rest days and will start their practice today at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The team Manager Mahinda Halangoda said to “Daily News ‘Kusal Mendis who had a cramp after his fine knock of 122 against Pakistan is back to normal after treatment and he is getting ready to train today We rushed Mendis to Hospital after getting cramp at the Pakistan match and hehas fully recovered to play the game said Manager Mahinda Halangoda
Sri Lanka team lost both games but they were able to score more than 300 runs and gave good fight against both opponents South Africa and Pakistan. The way they batted at these matches we can expect much more and I am sure they win very soon and winning mentality is more important to go forward added Manager Mahinda Halangoda who was a former S.Thomas Mt Lavinia paceman and outstanding first class player who played for Sri Lanka Board X1 .
Today is the first training session at Lucknow and we have discussed more during last two days and are making new plans .Here in Lucknow we have to play two matches against Australia on October16 and then against Netherlands on October21 at the same venue. Netherlands is the other qualifying team with Sri Lanka and we can’t underestimate any team at this world cup .
Sri Lanka team management more concerned about their bowling department and that is the area to build up on the Indian wickets and our pacemen and spinners are working hard with spin specialist coach Piyal Wijetunga and fast bowling specialist coach Dharshana Gamage.Thr head coach Chris Silverwood is responsible for overall coaching while Naveed Nawaz is the
batting specialist who is also the Assistant Coach of the team . Two foreigners are Fielding coach and physiotherapist and all the supporting team has to do lot of work to putt Sri Lanka team on the winning path .The coaches can push but players have big responsibility and they are the people who play in the middle .
Meanwhile Australia who lost to South Africa by 134 runs is under pressure and they have lost their both matches against India and South Africa and are looking to win the first game against Sri Lanka.
The side who will play better cricket on the day can win but most important is do less mistakes and Sri Lanka has to rectify mistakes soon said a cricket expert .They have good side with all rounders .We can’t depend on Wanindu Hasaranga or Dushmantha Chameera always and other bowlers have to learn and give their best he said .Most important is to adjust to the ground conditions. Our players should adjust to the Indian wickets and no excuses for failure he said
