0 2

The Sri Lanka cricket team is ready to face England in their World Cup match scheduled for today, at the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore commencing at 2 pm. After their victory in the Netherlands game, the Sri Lanka team is approaching this match with increased confidence to maintain their winning streak.

Experienced all-rounder Angelo Mathews will strengthen the side for the first time in this World Cup. Mathews will included in place for all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne to fortify the middle order. Mathews attended the pre-match press conference yesterday evening.

Sri Lanka have been facing significant issues with their middle order for a long time. Both seniors, Dasun Shanaka and Dhananjaya de Silva, have struggled to make runs. In Shanaka’s absence, Chamika Karunaratne was brought in but also failed to meet expectations.

Mathews’ return brings much-needed confidence to the middle order, and his potential as a part-time paceman gives an additional advantage to the team.

“The final eleven had not been announced as of yesterday. It was scheduled to be released after the final training session held in the evening from 6 pm to 9 pm. The team management planned to convene afterward to determine the final eleven,” said an official of the team.

The mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana is ready to play this game after recovering from an injury. Meanwhile, Dushan Hementha and Dhananjaya de Silva are fighting for a place as all-rounder, with Dhananjaya holding an edge due to his experience. The pace duo of Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha, both of whom claimed four wickets each in the last game, will be entrusted with their duties once again. the batting lineup remains unchanged, with Kusal Janith Perera and Pathum Nissanka as the openers, and skipper Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama as the two in-form batsmen. Following Samarawickrama, Mathews will have his opportunity to bat. This batting order will pose a challenge for the England bowlers.

The Sri Lanka team had three practice sessions at Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium. which is expected to offer a favourable batting pitch and a high-scoring game is anticipated.

England, on the other hand, is convinced about the match. All-rounder Moien Ali said, “Every match is important for our progress, especially against Sri Lanka, who perform well on subcontinent wickets.”

In the previous World Cup, Sri Lanka faced England and emerged victorious in spectacular fashion. Sri Lanka’s head coach, Chris Silverwood, a former head coach of the England team, is well acquainted with English’s strengths and weaknesses, offering an advantage to Sri Lanka. Mahela Jayawardena, the head of SLC cricket development, who is responsible for Sri Lanka’s high-performance unit and domestic cricket structure, is in Bangalore to motivate the team.
