In a momentous stride towards spreading the sport of squash to every corner of the country, Sri Lanka Squash successfully organized a World Squash Federation (WSF) Level 1 Coaching Course and WSF Level 1 Tutor Course. The historic event, conducted under the expert guidance of renowned World Squash Coach Maj S Maniam from Malaysia, took place at the Ratmalana Air Force Squash Complex from July 24 to 28.

With a participation of 37 members, this marked the first time in Sri Lanka’s history that a coaching clinic of such magnitude was held. The course attracted a diverse group of individuals, including current coaches, retired tri-forces squash coaches, over 10 national players, and two

participants from Pakistan and one from Qatar, truly making it an international endeavor.

Maj S Maniam, a steadfast friend of Sri Lanka Squash over the years, has an illustrious coaching career and is a Consultant Coach for the World Squash Federation. With an impressive track record of conducting over 130 courses worldwide, Maj Maniam is not only an expert coach but also a course designer who has developed comprehensive syllabi for squash coaching. His

presence was an invaluable asset for all participants, providing them with world-class instruction and insight.

The primary objective of this coaching course was to equip the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote squash in their respective districts, thereby fostering the growth of the sport across the nation. To facilitate this aim, four Sri Lankan participants – Gihan

Suwaris, Naduni Gunawardana, RS Deen, and Priyadarshana – actively took part in the Tutor Coaching Program. This specialized program enabled them to gain the expertise needed to conduct similar courses in the future, ensuring a sustainable and continuous effort to expand the sport’s reach.
