Sri Lanka succumb to Vietnam in Davis Cup tie

0 4

Sri Lanka suffered their second successive defeat as they went down to Vietnam 1-2 in their Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group-3 tie played at the SLTA Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.

The only consolation for the home side was the performance of Thehan Wijemanne and Dhilvan Herath as they battled hard to beat the combination of Tuan Pham and Tien Nguyen in a gruelling Doubles encounter.

The Sri Lankan pair were under pressure early in the game as they conceded the first set to their opponents 3-6 but recovered magnificently to snatch the last two sets 7-6, 6-4 respectively.

This was the second time that Wijemanne and Herath had won their Doubles fixture following their success over Saudi Arabia on the previous day.

Earlier, Sri Lanka conceded a 0-2 lead to their opponents with Ashen Silva and Chathurya Nilaweera going down in their opening two Singles against Minh Duc and Van Nguyen respectively.
