Sri Lanka to compete in Junior Rugby Asiad in Taipei

Sri Lanka’s junior ruggerites will have a busy schedule next month as they are set to compete in a series of international tournaments organised by Asia Rugby, under the flag of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL).

The Sri Lankan Junior ruggerites will participate in the Asia Rugby Boys’ and Girls’ Seven-A-Side Championship on December 10 and 11 at the Dasarath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged Boys’ and Girls’ Champions respectively of the 2021 tournament, which was staged in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

In fact, the Asia Rugby Under-18 Girls’ Sevens Tournament was first played in 2016 in Dubai, UAE, and has become an integral part of Asia Rugby’s long term player development strategy for the growth of the Women’s Programme.

Thereafter, Sri Lanka will participate in the Asia Rugby Under-19 Boys’ 15-A-Side Championship from December 11 to 17 in Chinese Taipei.

Sri Lanka’s opening match of this Junior Rugby Asiad will be against Hong Kong on December 11, and they will meet South Korea on December 14 before taking on the hosts Chinese Taipei in their third and final encounter on December 17.

Sri Lanka Rugby National Selectors have already spotted many talented players during the recently concluded Inter-Schools season and they are set to announce the squads for these tournaments in due course.
