Sri Lanka will bounce back against Bangladesh, says coach
Sri Lanka cricket team at their practice session at the ICC cricket Academy in Dubai yesterday to focus on Bangladesh match in the ongoing Asia Cup cricket tournament. They have good commitment while the supporting staff are busy with the players during the training.
Sri Lankan team head coach Chris Silverwood said that he is confident that the Sri Lankan team will come back strongly to win the Bangladesh game. I think first game against Afganisthan was an eye opener for the Sri Lanka team and we have to adjust to the conditions and come back strongly, said Silverwood.
Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in the last Test series in Bangladesh while that was the first assignment of Chris Silverwood with his assistant coach Naveed Nawaz.
Sri Lanka team is a mix of experience and youth players. “I am sure senior players will guide the juniors and this T- 20 format is very important and always make less mistakes during the 20 overs”. Sri Lanka team had a decent run rate of 7.2 in the first six overs (power play) but lost three wickets during the period. Once again two run outs including dashing stroke player Bhanuka Rajapaksa directly affected the innings in the first game against Afganisthan. These are the areas to focus more at the second Bangladesh game.
Meanwhile the debutant Pakistan paceman 19 year old Naseem Shah really bowled well at the India game and got two vital wickets to make good fight.
Sri Lanka also have inexperienced pacemen like Dilshan Madushanka and Matheesha Pathirana while Asitha Fernando who was the most successful bowler at the last Bangladesh Test series at Dhaka. Asitha Fernando also not got a chance to play T- 20 international.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka team also expected to do their final training session today.
Meanwhile Sri Lankan former leg spinner Rangana Herath who is with the Bangladesh team as a spin bowling specialized coach also busy with their players. Herath has strong spinners with the team led by Sakib -Ul Hussan while Mehadi Hassen also a good youngester strengthen the spin department.
Bangladesh played their first Asia Cup match against Afganisthan yesterday at Sharjah Stadium.
Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka earlier said playing against Bangkadesh easier than Afganisthan. However Bangkadesh spinner Mehadi Hassen made a reply to Shanaka said we are not going to reply to him but will show them what we are capable of during the Sri Lanka match. This is highly circulated in the social media these days.
