Sri Lanka will leave the Commonwealth under an NPP rule – Lal Kantha
NPP Executive Committee member and former MP Lal Kantha said that Sri Lanka will leave the Commonwealth of Nations under an NPP government. He said that the NPP election manifesto has clearly mentioned that Sri Lanka will give up membership in the Commonwealth of Nations.
Lal Kantha said that the Commonwealth was formed to bring the former British colonies together under the King or Queen after these colonies were given independence from the British monarchy.
“I am for a Commonwealth of Nations which is free from the dominance of British monarchy. Sri Lanka will no longer be a member of the Commonwealth under the British monarchy, after the NPP forms a government in future,” he said.
