Sri Lankan private sector applauded for good performance

Ceylon Biscuits Ltd (Munchee) was crowned as overall Gold winner at the NBEA 2021 awards on Tuesday and here Ramya Wickramasingha, Group Chairman,CBL receives the award from French Ambassador Eric Lavertu while President National Chamber Nandika Buddhipala presents the certificate to Kumudini Welmillage, Group HR Director, CBL Group.

Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka Eric Lavertu highly applauded the Sri Lankan private sector for their painstaking effort taken to develop the country’s export sector which helps to swell the economy to a greater extent.

He was addressing the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) organized annual National Business Excellence Awards 2021 which was held on a grand scale at BMICH. Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House) was the Print Media sponsor for the event again.

He said in spite of the pandemic situation Sri Lankan export sector has recorded a significant development during the last years. The Ambassador also highlighted the close business rapport between Sri Lanka and France and reminded on the launching of water supply projects in Negombo and also in Jaffna. The French Ambassador also said that direct flight services between Sri Lanka and France have commenced and said this will further strengthen the tourism industry in Sri Lanka. He said many French companies have also started business ventures in Sri Lanka and this situation will further strengthen business activities between Sri Lanka and France.

The Ambassador also highlights that Sri Lanka is seeking the assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at this juncture to provide uninterrupted services to people in the country which is a step taken in the right direction.

Ambassador Lavertu also expressed concern over the on-going war between Russia and Ukraine and said nearly three million Ukrainians have so far fled the country.

He said everybody hopes that this war will end soon for the betterment of all civilians in both countries. Ambassador Lavertu also highlighted the value of conducting such Business Excellence awards ceremonies by the NCCSL every year and said this sort of recognition will further strengthen personalities who are involved in various kinds of business activities.

Around 25 industrial sectors determined by the nature of their businesses were recognized for awards and the overall gold award was won by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd.

NCCSL President Nandika Buddhipala said the NBEA annual awards competition is conducted with a view to recognize business enterprises which have demonstrated excellence in business while contributing to the economic progress in the country.
