Sri Lankans in western Saudi Arabia issued emergency advisory

Sri Lankan citizens in the western region of Saudi Arabia have been urged to remain alert and follow official emergency warnings amid the evolving security situation in the region.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah issued an emergency notice advising Sri Lankans to immediately seek a safe area away from windows if they receive a National Warning Alert on their mobile phones. The Consulate is Sri Lanka’s official mission serving the western region of Saudi Arabia.

Those outdoors have been advised to enter the nearest safe building or take cover behind a solid wall, while people have also been told to stay away from open areas, glass, balconies and rooftops.

The Consulate advised motorists who receive an emergency warning to pull over and remain away from bridges and high-rise buildings until authorities confirm that the danger has passed.

Sri Lankans were also urged to avoid crowds and potentially dangerous areas and to rely only on official announcements rather than circulating unconfirmed information.

The notice specifically warned Sri Lankans not to photograph, film or record incidents, or share or comment on such material on social media, and urged them to comply strictly with Saudi laws and regulations.

For local emergencies, the notice lists 911 for the Makkah and Madinah regions and 998 for other parts of Saudi Arabia. The Consulate has also provided 056 098 6671 as an emergency contact number for existing emergency situations. (Newswire)
