United Kingdom: “While many of the global and local companies went into self isolation during the COVID pandemic temporary shutting down their operations, the Sri Lankan Apparel sector continued to function with caution,” said Yohan Lawrence, Secretary General of the Joint Apparel Association Forum.
He opined this at the Source Sri Lanka Apparel and Textile Show panel discussion at Royal Horticulture Hall here yesterday.
Yohan said that due to this Sri Lanka was able to respond to their global buyer and had one of the best year’s in recent times.
Many owners of the foreign Apparel Companies representatives who have opened in Sri Lanka several years ago also said that they have investments in many countries but Sri Lanka was the best.
They opined that the educational standard of Sri Lankan workers was of very high standard and their ability to adopt to additional workloads is far superior than many other countries like Bangladesh.
This is why many of the Bangladesh Apparel Companies are hiring Sri Lankans in large numbers.
They also lauded Sri Lanka’s high ethical standards in apparel manufacturing which they said was above world standard.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner in London Rohitha Bogolagamama who was the chief guest, visited all the stalls and gave them valuable advice in which areas they should do business in UK. The participants also showed their appreciation to stake holders for organising an event of this nature.
For some participants it was the first time that they were show cased to an international audience and they were able to find many par[pdf_embed url=”https://www.dailynews.lk/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/pg14-1.pdf”]tners as well as buyers. Several fashion shows were also held.
