
Sri Lankan javelin star Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage has been nominated for the 2026 Men’s World Athlete of the Year award, following a standout season on the international stage.
Pathirage is among the nominees competing for the prestigious honour after claiming a string of major javelin titles during 2026.
The Sri Lankan athlete was crowned Ultimate, Diamond League, Asian Games and Commonwealth javelin champion during the year.
He also produced a world-leading throw of 92.62 metres, setting a new Sri Lankan national record.
Public voting for the 2026 Men’s World Athlete of the Year is currently open and will close on Saturday, October 17 at 11:59 p.m. CEST.
