Sri Lanka’s young tennis team heads to Vietnam

A team of six junior tennis players from Sri Lanka is heading to Vietnam for the ITF Asia Under-14 Development Tennis Championship in Hanoi. The championship will take place from January 8 to 18.

Among the boys, Risith Somaratne from Ananda College is the top seed, and Aslin de Silva from St Peter’s College is ranked second.

For the girls, Sandithi Usgodarachchi from Musaeus College is the top seed, followed by Akeesha de Silva from Newstead Girls College Negombo at second, and Annaya Norbet from Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya at third. Mayooran Kubherene from St Peter’s College is the stand-by player for the tour.

The Sri Lanka Tennis Selection Committee chose these three boys and three girls after recent Selection Trials. The coach for the Sri Lanka team is Thevanesan Subramaniam, and the tournament will include teams from 14 nations, competing against countries from South, Southeast, and East Asia.
