SSC and Police SC will meet in the Major Clubs league cricket tournament final which will be worked off at NCC grounds, Maitland Place, from today commencing at 10 am each day.
The Two table leaders SSC led by young Nipun Dhananjaya and Police SC led by Ashen Bandara have well-balanced sides while SSC packed with several senior National players like Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando are expected to put up a good challenge in this four day game conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
Kusal Mendis, Dasun Shanaka and Avishka Fernando are expected to join the team after Abu Dhabi T-10 matches which give more strength to SSC while dashing top order batsman Kusal Janith Perera also will join the Police team today to play in this final.
Chamara Silva the former National player is coach cum player of Police SC said this is going to be a historic final for Police SC and they came to Domestic leading club tournament final for the first time. In fact we haven’t not many big names in our team but the success of this team is good team commitment and fitness. I am as a coach cum player very close to them and we have planned well while Police Sports Club senior officials give all infrastructure facilities for the teams success.
Chamara Silva who has lot of international experience said Piyamal Perera who crossed over from Colts CC playing very well while young Ashen Bandara really performed well and his leadership qualities are good to handle the team.
We have a young side but their dedication is very high and want to get a historic final victory. We know SSC very experienced and balanced side but we are very keen to meet this challenge said Chamara.
Meanwhile, SSC senior official said their acting skipper Nipun Dhananjaya gave good leadership in the absence of Charith Asalanka who was on National duty and now taking part in Abu Dhabi T-10 Cricket tournament. this is a good opportunity for former National under 19 skipper Nipun Dhananjaya to show his skills at this major tournament.
Former National opener Saman Jayantha is the SSC coach who gives good guidance to SSC team.
When Saman Jayantha was the Army SC coach earlier he was able to take Army SC to the final now he has teamed up with SSC Going back to Domestic cricket history SSC has reached the finals many times but this is the first time SSC will meet Police SC in a final and we are not under pressure and very keen to win the final to take the title said coach Saman Jayantha. Sudharshana Guruge is the SSC cricket team manager at this final.
Former St Joseph’s and National under 19 skipper Shevon Daniel, Nuwanidu Fernando all rounder Nisala Tharaka experienced Dimuth Karunaratne and leg spinner Prabath Jayasuriya are key players of the National team and they have a chance to play more Major clubs league matches while leg spinner Malinda Pushpakumara, Piyamal Perera, Heshan Dhanushka and Nalin Priyadharshana and experienced Nuwan Pradeep are Police SC key players.
