Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced in Parliament on Wednesday that the Water Supply State Minister Sanath Nishantha, has been suspended from Parliament sittings for a period of two weeks.
The Speaker told Parliament that he took the decision in terms of the powers vested in him under Standing Order 146.
He further said the decision had been taken due to the unruly behaviour of MP Sanath Nishantha in Parliament the day before yesterday.
Thereby, the suspension will be effective from yesterday.
The Speaker also said that he condemns the indiscipline that occurred in Parliament that day.
State Minister Sanath Nishantha was accused of stealing the file of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa when he was presenting a question under the Standing Order 27/2 in Parliament.
