0 1

Traffic Police officials have raised suspicions regarding the information given by State Minister Sanath Nishantha’s driver about the accident in which the State Minister and a Police officer was killed on the Katunayake Expressway on January 25.

The driver of the jeep in which the State Minister Sanath Nishantha was travelling has told the Police that when he was about to overtake the container, another vehicle had tried to overtake his jeep and to avoid an accident he had taken the jeep back into the left lane and at that moment the jeep had collided with the container.

According to what has been revealed in the investigation done so far regarding this accident, the vehicle in which the State Minister was travelling was speeding at more than 140 kilometers per hour when the accident occurred. After the accident, the speedometer of the vehicle had stopped at 140kph.

Traffic Police officials are puzzled as to whether another vehicle can overtake the jeep which was going at such a high speed. Traffic Police officers also point out that the vehicles travelling on the highway at such a high speed always drive in the right side lane. The Criminal Investigation Department has also started a special investigation regarding this accident.

It is based on a comment on social media a few days before the accident by the driver of the jeep about his death.

Traffic Police Officials said that if the security camera system of the highway is checked, it will be possible to clearly identify how the accident happened.
