Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that the aim of the Education Ministry is to provide equal opportunities in education to all the children in the country.

As one of the steps, the schools teaching up to GCE Advanced Level Examination in the country will be digitized by June this year and accordingly, the children will be provided with the opportunity to continue their education by directly connecting with the new technology.

The Minister expressed these views yesterday (5) at a ceremony held at the Jaffna Hindu College. Accordingly, the 3,000 schools offering studies up to GCE Advanced Level Examination will be digitized, and related to this, the training of teachers will commence from March this year.

Smart Interactive Boards will be provided to all relevant schools, the Minister further said. At the same time, the Minister also pointed out that the computer resource centres established in every education zone have been updated.

A year and a half ago, Dr. Premajayantha assumed the post of Education Minister during a challenging time when there were oil queues across the country, daily power cuts prevailed, no domestic gas was available and schools were closed.

The Minister recalled that he was able to make the right decisions in a very short period of time during the economic crisis in the country to get rid of the situation which affected normal functioning of the education system in schools and run the school system back again in an orderly manner.

He further said that everyone’s commitment is essential for the development of the country’s education system for the sake of the children, and that he expects to visit all the provinces of the country in the next few weeks and inform all the education authorities in this regard.

Smart Interactive Boards were given to the Jaffna Hindu College during this ceremony from the donations received from the Emeritus Professor in science, Siva Sivanathan.

Emeritus Professor Sivanathan, Member of Parliament Angajan Ramanathan and officials of the Education Ministry and the Principal of Jaffna Hindu College were also present.
