STF raids cigarettes stash worth Rs.20 mn

The Special Task Force succeeded in recovering a stock of counterfeit cigarettes worth over Rs 20 million during a raid conducted in Wattala, Biyagama and Gonawala areas on Monday.

According to STF sources, a suspect has been arrested by the STF with a stock of 6,900 illegal fags from Kohalwila road in Gonawala during a raid conducted on a tip off received to the STF Organized Crime Unit.

Based on the information received from the suspect, another suspect has been arrested with a stock of over 50,000 fags from a house in the same area.Both suspects along with the stock of counterfeit cigarettes have been handed over to the Kelaniya police for further investigations. These raids were conducted on the close supervision of STF Commandant DIG Waruna Jayasundera.
