STF seizes Rs. 80 Mn worth Ambergris

The Ratmalana Police Special Task Force (STF) camp said that they seized approximately 15 kilos of Amber or Ambergris which is extracted from the intestines of sperm whales valued at about Rs.80 million.

The amber was seized from a footwear manufacturing organization in Niyandagala, Homagama. Ambergris are used for preparing very expensive types of perfumes.

his stock of Amber had been found when a search had been carried out subsequent to a raid carried out by the Police STF on a tip-off received by their intelligence division.The camp said that the suspect who was arrested was from Muthuhenawatte, Meegoda and that the suspect and the stock of amber had been handed over to the Homagama Police for further investigations. The suspect is due to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.
