Student (16) dies under tragic circumstances
A group of students from Kadigamuwa Sunday School in Bingiriya , Kurunegala, were on an excursion to Galle by bus, when their bus pulled over to the side to make room for a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. The victim, 16-year-old A.M.A. Ashen, had stuck his head out of the window to see why the bus was slowly pulling over to the side, when his head had struck a concrete post and got stuck between the post and the bus. He was rushed to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, but had succumbed to the severe injuries to his head, soon after admission.
The unfortunate victim is a Grade 11 student of Dharmapala Central College, and a resident of Baragetyhera, of Upper Kadigamuwa.
Students numbering 116 girls and boys from the Sri Swarnapali Sunday School of Kadigamuwa, Bingiriya had gone on that fateful excursion. These students who had come in two buses had been to Bona Vista and were on their way towards the Sama Chaithya -’ Shrine of Peace’ in Galle.
The accident had occurred when they were going to see Roomassala Jungle Beach, in Unawatuna, after having visited and worshipped at the Kachchuwatta Ancient Temple of Galle. They had also visited places in Trincomalee before coming to Galle The driver of the fateful bus was taken into custody and was due to be produced in Courts yesterday (21).
