Student warned for selling moonshine
Kalawana Police said that a student of a school in Kalawana area was caught by the class teacher while selling Moonshine to the older students of the school.
It was reported that this student, who is studying in grade nine, had brought Moonshine in the water bottle he used and sold them to students of higher grades.
When this student was selling Moonshine to older students on September 25, the class teacher became suspicious and checked the student’s bottle.
Police said that the guardians of the student were called to the school and the principal and the teachers gave them a stern warning and sent them away.
Police said that the student had come to school from the care of his mother’s younger sister as his mother was abroad. Police said that after this incident, the mother’s sister lodged a complaint saying that she could no longer bear the responsibility of taking care of the student.
Kalawana Police said that due to her refusal to take custody of the student, yesterday (26) the matter was reported to the Ratnapura Magistrate’s Court and the court ordered that the student, who was in the custody of his mother’s younger sister until now, be handed over to his elder brother. Kalawana Police said further investigations will be carried out in connection with how the student got hold of illicit liquor to sell in the school.
