Suicide turns to murder in apartment death

Police who investigated the death of a young man who allegedly committed suicide by jumping from an upper floor of the Randiya Uyana apartments after going to meet his girlfriend, has found it was not suicide but murder.

Police arrested a suspect yesterday in connection with the incident. Police investigations have revealed that the boy was strangled to death at his girlfriend’s house on the tenth floor of the housing complex and the body was thrown from the upper floor.

Earlier the body of the boy was buried at the Madampitiya cemetery after his death was declared as suicide. A senior Police officer mentioned that the body will be exhumed after a court order and a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

The Police also said the deceased 21 year old J.Madushanka and his girlfriend were heavily addicted to ‘Ice’.Investigations have revealed that the girl’s mother is abroad and she resides in the house on the tenth floor of Randiya Uyana with her 18-year-old sister and grandmother.

Police said that the 18-year-old sister is pregnant and does not know who the father of her child is.This girl also has an elder sister who is currently abroad. Police say that she has two children and those children are also live in this house.

Police investigations have revealed that a 26-year-old man, who is said to be having an affair with the elder sister often visits the house and he is also heavily addicted to narcotics. He is said to be having an affair with the girl as well.On the day of the alleged murder the 26 year old man had been in this house when Madushanka visited. Police investigations have revealed that the 26 year old man had strangled Madushanka using a cloth following an argument and then threw his body from the tenth floor.

Earlier the boy’s girlfriend had told Police that Madushanka jumped from a window. Police had started another investigation after a relative of the deceased made a complaint.

He had also produced some pictures of Madushanka taken by a resident in the condominium just after he fell to the ground and they showed a cloth hanging around his neck.When Police interrogated the girl again she had revealed that the 26-year old man had strangled him and he also had threatened her not to reveal the truth.Police will produce the suspect before courts.
