Support a strong Govt. with 125 Parliamentary seats – NPP Anuradhapura Candidate Wasantha Samarasinghe

Anuradhapura District Candidate of the National People’s Power (NPP) called on the public to support a strong government with 125 Parliamentary seats, emphasising that an NPP administration would enforce the Law in a way that does not allow the corrupt to secure bail through court.

Samarasinghe, Anuradhapura District team leader for the NPP, clarified that the recent arrest of former Minister Johnston Fernando was related to a case involving the misuse of Sathosa employees for election purposes and obtaining goods unlawfully, not the issue regarding an unregistered BMW vehicle linked to him.

Referring to the false claims made in cases involving Basil Rajapaksa’s Malwana house and Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s claim of his grandmother’s bag of gems, Samarasinghe noted that similar misrepresentations could occur in Johnston’s BMW case. Therefore, the NPP intends to enforce the Law in a way that prevents corrupt individuals from easily obtaining bail.

He also stated that legal action would be pursued against all those from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), SLPP, and UNP, including those associated with Ranil, who received funds from Aloysius.

Samarasinghe noted that following the previous Presidential Election, around 80 MPs were sent home without contesting the Parliamentary election due to the NPP’s victory. To address the nation’s issues and solve public grievances, he advocated establishing an NPP-led government with 125 Parliamentary seats. The NPP aims to introduce a series of reforms, including a Law to end Party-switching practices that destabilise the country, and Legislation to eliminate pensions and privileges granted to former presidents, rather than selling off national assets.
